I've been playing White Knight Chronicles for the PS3. It got mixed reviews, but I'm having fun with it.

I was just remembering my table top hockey game I had as a kid. I just learned it was made by Coleco. It was NHL endorsed, and my version had the Leafs vs Canucks. Here's what the Leafs team looked like:

I just ordered the third volume of the Retro Gamer eMag with 25 back issues on DVD. Seemed like a good deal for slightly under 20 bucks total to ship to Canada.

Thanks for your insights. I'll be sure to look into them. I actually have two issues of Retro Gamer. I've got issue 52, which features a cover story on Star Wars games, and #62, focusing on the Mega Drive/Genesis. I highly enjoyed reading both of them. I wish they were more affordable, but given the climate for print publications, importing costs, and that it targets a niche market, I can understand.

I'm looking to get back into the Atari 2600, and I'm wondering what magazines, past or present, do the best job in analysing the system and the game library. When it comes to game play, I suppose most games don't have much to be discussed, but hearing from programmers and developers would be interesting as well.

I'm going to pay close attention to this discussion. I've owned a few variants of the Atari over the years. I no longer have anything remaining in my collection, so I'm setting a long term goal of getting started up again. I'll promise myself to only buy if it is relatively cheap since I don't have that much space in my apartment. My first ever console system was a Coleco Gemini, which ran Atari games, that my siblings and I found at a yard sale. I was probably 9 or 10 years old, and the 2600 would have been dead for around a decade. I think it cost 8 dollars, and came with 4 games. Joust, California Games, Asteroids, and another title I can't remember.

In general, I consider a system retro if it dates back to by high school days. That makes the cut off point at 2003, so if it is PS2/GameCube/XBox or earlier.

I've never heard of this version of NBA Jam at all. Sounds like I'm not missing much. I'd still like to try it just to gain a better appreciation of the originals. Scratch that, that's simply not possible.

I have the Genesis version titled "Double Dragon III: The Arcade Game". If I remember correctly, isn't this the one where you had to "buy" the ability to do special moves? Yuck!

A classic! I repurchased this game this week from an online classified ad (along with Castlevania II: Simon's Quest). My brother previously owned a copy, but it was given up in a yard sale years ago. After playing it co-op for the first time in years, we did decent on our lone attempt (Mission 5). We mostly beat ourselves up since making poor jump decisions off platforms did more damage that any enemy we crossed.

I own the Genesis version of the game. It's actually kind of fun to play in co-op, featuring the Mortal Kombat style of character animation. I used to hate the game because there was one stage in the game that my brother and I couldn't figure out what to do. Revisiting the game years later, it turned out what we thought was a dead end was a section where you were supposed to crouch and leap down. It's been a while since I've played it, but I think a part of the foreground partially blocked this passageway. It's far from the best game, but it's far from the best movie.

Love this game! I found the codebook for this game at a dollar store near my grandparent's house. Bought it years before I ever owned the game. Always loved the idea of being able to play as the Beastie Boys.

My biggest retro gaming mistake was selling off a Sega Master System with somewhere between 15 and 20 boxed games at a yard sale. My dad picked it up at an auction for my brother and I for dirt cheap (as well as a Genesis with Sonic 2). The system had less sex appeal than the Genesis, so we focused on that console. I can hardly remember what games we had aside from Ghostbusters and Shinobi since we hardly ever played it. It pains me to think about how much it would cost to reacquire it, even if the games we had weren't even that hot.
